Do People Actually REALLY See God?

The question we’re dealing with and that we would love to hear your response to is this:

Do people today actually encounter God’s presence in a physical form here on earth?

Forty-eight percent of adult Americans polled in a survey stated that they have experienced an encounter with the divine. The poll, conducted by the Pew Research Center, showed that in 1962 twenty-two percent of Americans claimed to have experienced an encounter with the Devine. In 1976 the number rose to 31 percent and then in 2009 it again rose to the 48 percent of adults polled.

Perhaps then, the question is not IF people have experiences of encountering God but what those encounters are all about. Is God increasing the times He makes personal visits? If so, why? Or has He always made His presence known but now we are becoming more consciously aware of His spiritual presence?

But then again, it is not uncommon to hear some say that “God does not appear here on earth. Those things only happened in Biblical times - not today.”

An interesting response to the thought that God does not appear here on earth, is a comment found in Romans 1:20 where it states that no one can even think that God is not around us because “…what is known about God is plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

When we take in the grandeur of a rugged mountain range is it beautiful and awe-inspiring because it is a really, really big pile of dirt and rocks or because we are witnessing the masterful talents of its Creator? The presence of God also seems all so present when;

• holding a new born infant and taking in the amazement of life coming into being

• watching the human hand at work and how it is capable of mastering thousands of different functions

• feeling love

Perhaps it might be more logical to say that it is pretty hard to NOT know God as His presence is evident in everything around us.

In order to answer the question if God is seen here on earth, perhaps the best way might be to find out more about the encounters that people are experiencing before making any conclusions.

Tell us what you think. Do people actually experience God’s presence? Please comment below. We look forward to hearing from you.
